As one of the three core values of the Order of the Arrow, service is a large part of the focus of Kanwa tho Lodge's efforts. From work days to clean up and prepare camp in the spring, to food and supply drives during the holidays, to financial contributions to Friends of Scouting and camperships, Kanwa tho Lodge does a great job of giving back to our camps, Three Harbors Council and the community.
Service opportunities come up often, so be sure to check the website and our social media for news. Below are some common service opportunities:
Scouting the Zoo Service Corps: Scouting the Zoo is one of the council's largest events, serving around 1,000 people at the Milwaukee County Zoo on the weekend after Memorial Day. Kanwa tho Lodge serves as a service corps, completing many tasks throughout the weekend.
State Fair Parking: During the 11-day run of the Wisconsin State Fair, visitors can pay to park in the lot of the Milwaukee Scout service center. Order of the Arrow members collect money as a donation for parking. One-third of the proceeds collected are given directly to Three Harbors Council, one-third are donated to the council campership fund and one-third are kept by Kanwa tho Lodge.
Camp Program Assistance: Several programs at Indian Mound Scout Reservation and Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta are held each year that need a strong corps of volunteers. Some events include Haunted Hayride, Spooktacular and Illumination Extravaganza. Often, lodge members serve as parking lot attendants, registration assistants, kitchen staff and even program staff.
